Toper’s Bio
Toper Taylor has been a Senior Advisor at Woodside Capital Partners since 2010. He has orchestrated dozens of mergers and acquisitions including Klutz Books, Kidscann Press, Cinar, Dic Entertainment and others. He is an expert in direct-to-consumer businesses.
Toper served as President/COO of Nelvana [now Corus Entertainment (CJREF)], President/COO of Cookie Jar Entertainment [now WildBrain Ltd. (WLDBF)], President of Network of One [now Spotter (www.spotter.la)], as a talent agent at the William Morris Agency [now William Morris Endeavor (www.wmeagency.com)] and CEO of strategic advisory firm Media Disrupted, Inc. (www.mediadisrupted.com). Media Disrupted clients have included Cognize, Electronic Arts, Corus Entertainment, WildBrain, Chesler/Perlmutter Productions, Callaway Arts & Entertainment, OrangeTwist, Cepia Toys, PRIVO, Marine Biology Environment Technologies, Bardel Entertainment, PLASTC, and many more.
As an accomplished corporate executive, Toper has raised over $1 billion in debt and equity, taken companies public and private, managed businesses with offices on three continents with more than 2,500 employees, and orchestrated dozens of mergers and acquisitions including Cinar, Dic Entertainment, Klutz Books, Kidscann Press, Bardel Entertainment, Art Impressions, and many more. He has deep expertise in entertainment production, publishing, finance, distribution/sales, marketing, licensing, digital media, and branded consumer products.
As a producer of family entertainment, Toper has produced over 15,000 episodes of television and won a handful of Emmy Awards. Some of Toper’s most acclaimed works include Arthur, Caillou, Rolie Polie Olie, Max and Rubie, Beetlejuice, Franklin the Turtle, Richard Scarry’s Busytown Mysteries, Maurice Sendak’s Little Bear, Beyblade, Strawberry Shortcake, Brian Jacques’ Redwall, Johnny Test, and Miss Spider’s Tea Party among many more.
Toper dove into his first pure play technology start up with Network of One first as an investor and then as President of the company. The business monitors all activity on YouTube and is able to pick and predict performance of videos after a 90 day period of time. As Toper was an early adapter to SVOD platforms like Netflix and HBO, becoming an expert in AVOD platforms (YouTube, Hulu, Orange, etc) was essential.
Most recently, Toper embraced his passion for health and wellness, being an active board member for the biotechnology company Marine Biology Environment Technologies (www.mbetechnologies.com) and a strategic adviser to the consumer-facing cosmeceutical business Orange Twist (www.orangetwist.com).
Toper holds both a BA and MHA from the University of Southern California where he has served as Chairman of the USC Roski School of Fine Arts and Design and won the President’s Award for Volunteerism. He is currently pursuing his doctoral in Public Policy at the USC Price School.
