Palo Alto – August 30, 2026 – WCP is delighted to release the MedDevice Market Update, Q2 2026, authored by senior banker Juliesta Sylvester PhD, and by analyst Ted Celentino.
The report covers the following key points and more:
- Medical Device growth remains steady, supported by aging populations and continued investment in areas such as robotic surgery, minimally invasive procedures, and specialized surgical devices. The global medical devices market is estimated at approximately $605B in 2026.
- Strategic buyers drove Q2 2026 M&A, with 71 transactions, up 16% year over year, and strategics representing 79% of acquisitions. Danaher’s $9.9B acquisition of Masimo added AI-enabled patient monitoring and sensor capabilities, while Medtronic’s $585M acquisition of CathWorks expanded its interventional cardiology portfolio with AI-powered coronary artery disease analysis.
- Venture funding strengthened, reaching approximately $3.8B in Q2, up from $1.8B in Q2 2025, with capital flowing primarily to AI-enabled diagnostics, digital health, medical devices, and precision medicine.
- AI adoption is broadening across medical devices, moving beyond clinical decision support into evidence generation, workflow automation, and supply-chain forecasting. AI is also increasingly becoming an acquisition driver, as the Masimo and CathWorks transactions illustrate.
- Care continues to move outside the hospital, increasing demand for at-home diagnostics and clinical wearables, while regulatory changes—including the FDA’s QMSR, effective February 2026—are raising expectations for quality systems, lifecycle risk management, and product commercialization.
